AAEP On Call Veterinarians to Assist 2012 Breeders' Cup

Equine veterinarians representing the American Association of Equine Practitioners’ On Call program will assist NBC Sports with horse health information during the Nov. 2 – 3 Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships at Santa Anita Park.  Equine surgeonsLarry Bramlage, DVM, MS, and Wayne McIlwraith, BVSc, Ph.D., will be available to provide timely health reports to the media and viewing audience regarding the athletes in each race.

Dr. Bramlage is a partner at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky.  He is a past president of the AAEP and a past chairman of the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation’s Research Committee. He is a recipient of The Jockey Club Gold Medal. Dr. McIlwraith, who also is an AAEP past president, is a Colorado State University professor in Clinical Sciences, holder of the Barbara Cox Anthony Endowed Chair, and director of the Orthopaedic Research Center  Both Drs. Bramlage and McIlwraith are board certified by theAmerican College of Veterinary Surgeons.

The On Call program, which started in 1993, serves over 30 televised equine events annually.  Nearly 20 media-trained AAEP-member veterinarians share their veterinary expertise as On Call spokespersons.  For more information or to schedule an interview with an On Call spokesperson, contact Sally Baker, AAEP director of marketing and public relations, at 859-552-5615.
