The American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) has inducted Colorado State University professor David Frisbie, DVM, Ph.D, DACVS, whose leadership has helped shape the association’s educational programs, to its board of directors. 

Dr. Frisbie entered his term as a director-at-large during the Dec. 4 President’s Luncheon at the 58^th Annual Convention in Anaheim, Calif. His term will expire in 2015. 

Dr. Frisbie researches innovative therapies for treating joint disease and serves as associate professor of equine surgery at Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine. In addition, he is a practicing partner with Equine Sports Medicine and a senior scientist at the Orthopedic Research Center. 

After receiving a veterinary degree from the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Frisbie completed a surgical internship at Cornell University. He completed a surgical residency and earned a master’s degree in joint pathobiology at Colorado State University. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. 

Since joining the AAEP in 2001, Dr. Frisbie has provided guidance to the Educational Programs Committee (EPC) as a member for two terms and the chair for one term. In addition, he’s served on the AAEP’s Abstract Review and Convention Planning committees, as well as the Medication Regulation and Western Performance Horse Task Forces. Dr. Frisbie received the 2001 Pfizer Animal Health Award for Research Excellence and the 2011 AAEP President’s Award for outstanding service on the EPC. 

The American Association of Equine Practitioners, headquartered in Lexington, Ky., was founded in 1954 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the health and welfare of the horse. Currently, the AAEP reaches more than 5 million horse owners through its nearly 10,000 members worldwide and is actively involved in ethics issues, practice management, research and continuing education in the equine veterinary profession and horse industry.
