The American Association of Equine Practitioners inducted world-class theriogenologist Elizabeth “Lisa” Metcalf, DVM, to its board of directors during the 57^th Annual Convention in San Antonio.

Dr. Metcalf was introduced with fellow new members of the board during the Nov. 21 President’s Luncheon. She will serve as the representative of District IX, the Northwestern District, through 2014. 

Dr. Metcalf is the owner of Honahlee, PC, an equine reproduction facility located in Sherwood, Ore. She received her veterinary degree from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine and a master’s degree in endocrinology from the University of California-Davis. She is a Diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists and from 2001 to 2007 was the Oregon Veterinary Racing Commissioner. 

In addition, Dr. Metcalf teaches equine theriogenology to students at the Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She serves as the current president of the Northwest Equine Practitioners Association, a member of the Chairs Council of the Oregon Humane Society and a member of the board of directors of the Portland Mounted Patrol Unit. Dr. Metcalf became a member of the AAEP in 1989 and has served as chair of the Reproduction Committee and a member of the Abstract Review and Educational Programs committees. Dr. Metcalf is an invited speaker throughout the world and has authored numerous articles, papers and textbook chapters about equine reproduction. 

The American Association of Equine Practitioners, headquartered in Lexington, Ky., was founded in 1954 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the health and welfare of the horse. Currently, the AAEP reaches more than 5 million horse owners through its nearly 10,000 members worldwide and is actively involved in ethics issues, practice management, research and continuing education in the equine veterinary profession and horse industry.
