Dec 10, 2014

Katherine Garrett, DVM, DACVS, associate veterinarian and director of diagnostic imaging at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky., has joined the board of directors of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP).

Dr. Garrett was installed during the Dec. 9 President’s Luncheon at the AAEP’s 60th Annual Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her three-year term will expire in 2017.

After receiving her veterinary degree from Cornell University in 2003, Dr. Garrett completed an internship at Rood and Riddle and remained on staff as an associate focused on Thoroughbred sales work before her emphasis shifted to diagnostic imaging. She has authored textbook chapters and multiple peer-reviewed journal articles, and has spoken at national and international veterinary conferences.

An AAEP member since 2003, Dr. Garrett is chair of the Educational Programs Committee and also serves on the Continuing Education Steering Committee. She previously served on the Governance and Journal task forces and as program chair of the AAEP’s 2011 Resort Symposium continuing education meeting.

The American Association of Equine Practitioners, headquartered in Lexington, Ky., was founded in 1954 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the health and welfare of the horse. Currently, AAEP reaches more than 5 million horse owners through its over 9,000 members worldwide and is actively involved in ethics issues, practice management, research and continuing education in the equine veterinary profession and horse industry.
