Dr. Raul Bras Elected to AAEP Board of Directors

Prominent equine podiatrist Raul Bras, DVM, CJF, has joined the board of directors of the American Association of Equine Practitioners. He was installed Dec. 2 during the AAEP’s 69th Annual Convention in San Diego, Calif. His three-year term expires in 2026. 

Dr. Bras, who spent the first 18 years of his career in Lexington, Ky., with Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, joined the faculty at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine as a clinical veterinarian of equine podiatry in October 2023. Currently based in Raleigh, N.C., Dr. Bras remains a shareholder of Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital and continues to provide his expertise on a regular basis at its Wellington, Fla., location.  

After receiving his veterinary degree from Ross University in 2005, Dr. Bras completed a surgery internship at Rood and Riddle and remained with the practice as an associate in the podiatry department. He became a shareholder in 2012. Dr. Bras travels throughout the U.S. and internationally to impart his knowledge and expertise on equine podiatry and laminitis. 

A graduate of the farrier program at Cornell University in 2007, Dr. Bras became a Certified Journeyman Farrier of the American Farriers Association in 2010. He achieved induction into the International Equine Veterinarian Hall of Fame in 2015. 

Dr. Bras served on the AAEP’s Educational Programs Committee and Scientific Review and Editorial Committee. Additionally, he served as program chair of the AAEP’s Focus on Podiatry continuing education event in June 2023 as well as the AAEP’s 2021 Virtual CE Summer Series.
