Equine Sports Medicine Professor at Colorado State University Elected to AAEP Board of Directors

Erin Contino, DVM, DACVSMR, associate professor of equine sports medicine and rehabilitation at Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, has joined the board of directors of the American Association of Equine Practitioners. She was installed Dec. 2 during the AAEP’s 69th Annual Convention in San Diego, Calif. Her three-year term expires in 2026. 

After receiving her veterinary degree from Colorado State University in 2010, Dr. Contino completed an internship at Pioneer Equine Hospital in Oakdale, Calif. She returned to Colorado State University for a three-year residency in equine sports medicine and rehabilitation followed by a one-year fellowship in equine musculoskeletal ultrasound before joining the faculty. Her clinical and research interests include diagnosis and treatment of lameness and poor performance in equine athletes. 

Dr. Contino recently concluded multi-year terms as chair of the AAEP’s Educational Programs Committee and Scientific Review and Editorial Committee. In addition, she is the program chair for the AAEP’s 2024 Resort Symposium continuing education meeting in Costa Rica and served as program chair of the AAEP’s 2019 Focus on Sports Medicine CE meeting in Fort Collins, Colo. 

Dr. Contino is president-elect of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, in which she achieved diplomate status in 2014. She is also an avid competitor and volunteer at local and national three-day events and serves as Area IX Council Vice-Chair and member of the Equine Welfare Committee of the United States Eventing Association.
